Betina

Betina was built around the Artić peninsula on the north-eastern coast of the island of Murter. The stone houses and narrow streets of Dolac, the old part of the town, ascend from the coastline and the harbour to a small church on a hill. Throughout the years, Betina expanded to the north-west, all the way to Murter, enveloping the sandy Zdrače bay, and along the coast to the north-east and the Plitka vala bay. The big field which separates Betina from Murter once fed Betina's inhabitants, who were farmers and shipbuilders. To this field and their agricultural tradition, the residents of Betina dedicated the festivity Dan betinske pomidore ("Betina Tomato Day"), held on the last Saturday of July. The tomatoes that grow in the permanently sunny Betina Field have a particularly full flavour and are worth including in your menu during your vacation in Betina. However, the Tomato Day is not the biggest festivity in Betina. On the first Saturday in August, the entire island gathers in Betina for Dan brganje ("Brganja Day"), a festivity honouring a type of seashell harvested from the Betina canal with a special tool – the brganja. The centre of Betina is quiet. A few restaurants, taverns and cafés, as well as a walkway along the coast with small bridges connecting the little quays, create an atmosphere of harmony. As you walk through the centre, you will find yourself thinking that this is what life in the Mediterranean must have looked like once upon a time. The same quiet harmony extends to Betina's beaches, located in the town itself. The beaches are pebble and never crowded. The beautiful Kosirina natural bay is located approximately 1.5 km from Betina and you can reach it even on foot, if you take the old road along the coast which is partially closed for traffic. There are no hotels in Betina, but you will have no trouble finding accommodation in an apartment. In addition to apartments available on all locations in Betina, we also offer several villas with a pool. In order to inform you about some of the more interesting locations in Betina and let you pick the one which suits you best, we have prepared short descriptions and photos of them.
